Music to my (baby’s) Ears: Baby Blanket Music Giveaway and Review

I love music: Country, Christian, Indie, Oldies.

Since having my first baby, I have often wondered what type of music I should play for her.  I considered buying some baby CD’s, but the sheer number of options overwhelmed me, so I put it off. Thankfully I was asked to review Baby Blanket Music.

Baby Blanket Music is a collection of albums featuring soothing lullaby arrangements of songs made famous by well-known artists. Think in terms of artists like The Beatles, Lady Gaga and more.  The music is arranged by Josh Rutt, a teacher, composer, performer, and graduate of Duke University with a major in music.

I was a little dubious about how the music would sound.  I imagined cheesy lyrics, annoying sounds of grown men singing in babyish voices, and tinny, whiny sounds that make your ears want to bleed. I was pleasantly surprised by what I heard when I played the first CD.

First of all, there are no lyrics, which is lovely.  It is less distracting and doesn’t get stuck in your head the way that songs such as “The Wheels on the Bus” do.

Second, the music is very mellow and easy to listen to. Even after I put my daughter down for a nap, I forgot that it was on.  It doesn’t bother me at all.  The tones are very soft and slow, nothing hyperactive or irritating. The little one likes it as well.

I tested out the music on a day when my daughter was very cranky and overtired.  The second the music began, she calmed down and looked in the direction that the sound was coming from. She was instantly soothed!

The fun part is, if husband and I want to sing the lyrics to the familiar tunes, we can.  It’s rare that parents and babies can enjoy the same music, but with the Baby Blanket Cd’s they can. Not only is the music soothing to baby and pleasant to listen to, but fun for us parents since it is created from songs we are familiar with.

After looking at the website, I have decided that I definitely need to order some of their other CD’s.  My husband is excited about the Garth Brooks and Simon & Garfunkel!  You can even download your favorites on iTunes.
