There are many challenges that come with a newborn. You know, little things such as keeping them alive since they completely rely on you for EVERYTHING!
It can be scary, right?
One of the aspects of caring for a newborn that had me constantly second guessing myself was my daughter’s warmth. Was she warm enough? I was constantly worried that she was too cold. Swaddling her helped resolve that issue for a time. We could wrap that little bitty body up and tuck a blanket over her safely since she was unable to move.
However, babies grow up. Once our little one was no longer swaddled I was unsure of how to keep her warm. I tried putting a onesie under her pajamas, as well as socks on her tiny feet. Apparently, my daughter is a magician and her socks would somehow come off in the night and her small toes would be cold.
Thankfully, I was given a Baby Dee Dee Sleep Nest to review.
Does that not sound divine? Sleep nest. The name itself sounds comfortable. Not to mention it is described as “the baby duvet sleeping bag”. They had me at duvet.
The sleep nest is designed to be used instead of loose blankets, which can be dangerous hazards for infants. In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the use of baby sleeping bags since they are specifically designed to keep infants warm without the need for a blanket. The sleep nest is basically a wearable blanket (with way more style and class than a Snuggie). Warmth and safety for the win!
I absolutely love it and so does baby girl.
What I Love About the Baby Dee Sleep Nest
1. Material
The breathable quilted material is incredibly soft and it comes in the most adorable color combinations. I had such a hard time choosing just one because ALL of their selections are adorable. They even have a version with a glow-in-the-dark zipper. My husband was a little bummed that I didn’t choose that one.
2. Zipper Placement
Speaking of zippers, the first thing I noticed and appreciated about the sleeping sack was the zipper. It zips from the top to the bottom. AMAZING. No baby fingers can grab the zipper to pull it up to little exploring baby mouths. Genius. Pure genius.
3. Shoulder Snaps
There are also shoulder snaps if you don’t want to fight those wiggly little arms when it is time to get baby up and out of the crib. I love the convenience. Whether baby girl refuses to bend her arms or is already fast asleep and I don’t want to move her, the shoulder snaps come to the rescue.
4. Room to Grow
At five months old, my daughter fits into a medium sized nest with plenty of room to grow. If I had known of the existence of this product, it would have had high priority on my baby registry and I would have requested a small size as well for the newborn phase.
5. Arm Space
Yet another aspect of the sleep nest that has me drooling are the open arms which allow my daughter to self soothe during those night wakings. Swaddling doesn’t leave the arms free, but the sleep nest does. She can grab her pacifier or lamb, or suck on her fingers with ease.
With fall already here and winter knocking on our doors, this baby sleeping bag is the perfect item for anyone with a newborn, infant, or toddler who sleeps in a crib.

Nice gift for my nephew on his way, size medium & in blue please.
If I won this, I would donate it to those who were affected by Superstorm Sandy in NYC. With the weather getting colder, many families are suffering from no heat, electricity and/or hot water. This would help one child stay warmer.
The size and choice of color I would pick would be a neutral Dream Blue in Large so that they could put more clothes on the baby.
