This year was my 6 year old son’s first time playing baseball. One practice during the week, one game each weekend – April through the end of June/beginning of July.
I grew up playing baseball as a kid. I never thought twice that the only time my head was protected was when I was either batting in the batting helmet or behind the plate catching in all my protective gear. Or how when I moved positions from catcher to pitcher, I was on that mound with nothing but a glove. And let me tell you, I took a few good hard hits on that mound.
Watching my son play this year I was so proud. But something started to eat at me… how often his precious little head was not covered with anything but his team baseball hat. Even if that is how everyone plays… it still bothered me. He only had head protection when he was at bat. That was it.
Only after the season was over did I hear about a youth sports protective gear called SportsGuard.
SportGuard’s HeadGuard easily inserts into any baseball cap and is lightweight (less than three ounces!) breathable, moisture resistant, latex free, soft and comfortable. Once inserted into the baseball cap, it’s held in place by the sweatband. Your child won’t even know it is there protecting him or her!
I am all about baseball protection and you can bet that when baseball season rolls around again, I will have this for all my guys. SportsGuard doesn’t just offer head protection, but chest protection too.
I’m thinking that I love this not only for baseball, but for when the twins play hockey as well. The more protection the better! And I can’t help but think starting them now with this while they are small will set them up to be extra safe as they grow.
If you are a sports mom like me, I recommend you give SportsGuard a good look. In addition to their website, you can also follow up with them on Facebook and Twitter. With school starting up again so soon, sports practice is right around the corner!
