Tackle It Tuesday: Starting Utility Services At Our New Home

Last week’s Tackle It Tuesday was all about my chance to take a quick breather in the middle of preparing for our family’s cross-country move. Well, this week it’s back to our (crazy) business as usual!

One thing I had entirely forgotten about in the midst of purging and planning and packing was the fact that we need to have all of the utility services connected at our new home in time for move-in. Can’t forget that!

So last night I made a list:

  • water/sewer
  • garbage
  • gas
  • electricity
  • cable and internet

I started searching online one-by-one for these service providers until I realized – aha! – I had ordered a Relocation Brochure from our new town a few months ago! And wouldn’t you know it, they had a handy little section with names and numbers of utility providers, all in one place.

I wish I had remembered this handy booklet sooner!

For your next move, I highly encourage you to contact the local Chamber of Commerce and have them send you a Relocation Guide (they are typically free with no charge for shipping) for your new town. Having helpful information like this at your fingertips can save you a ton of time, and time is precious when you’re preparing for a move!

    I Love this post! I do break down my tasks into smaller tasks to complete. I do find it is easier to do it this way. Plus, if I am not able to complete them all, I can just move them to a new day. Has anyone else found that breaking their large tasks into smaller list a better way to manage a large project?
