Should the Ultimate Blog Party be for women bloggers only?

by Susan

Ultimate Blog Party 2009We are gearing up for our 3rd Annual Ultimate Blog Party. It starts next Friday and runs the week of March 20-27th.

Check out our previous blog parties:
Ultimate Blog Party 2008
Ultimate Blog Party 2007

This year’s party is going to be HUGE… and we have a question for you.

Do you want the Ultimate Blog Party to be for women bloggers only?

When we came up with the idea of the UBP back in 2007, we envisioned it as a party for mom bloggers and other women bloggers. And then we had some men want to join the fun… so we said sure, why not? But… we had some women complain about that… so we’ve maintained that the Ultimate Blog Party is for women.

But, we want to check again… what do YOU think?

Please vote in the following poll and then tell us more of your thoughts in the comments below.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

And remember that this year we will also be using Facebook and Twitter to promote the UBP 2009. So make sure you don’t forget to invite your Facebook friends and Twitter followers. There will even be prizes just for them! Please use hashtag #ubp09.

And hey… go RSVP on the Facebook Ultimate Blog Party Event Page now.

I kinda like a girls only policy! But I actually voted for Dad blogs, too…

I voted for Dad blogs only because if you include everyone in cyberspace it could be big mess, there are all kinds out there ya know LOL But I’m all for including the men so that’s why I chose dad bloggers.

Today we are supposed to be a society that believes Ii equality. it means does not all right? Not just the light skins, the red heads ,the tall thin ones or 77 figure incomes. So how can one expect to say others can’t join in one thing but yet want to join in something they have later? So I personally think each and everyone should be welcome.

I will be participating this year. I don’t have a Facebook account so I wasn’t able to RSVP there. Healthy Moms is also donating a prize. I just contacted Pamela about it. I can’t wait!

this is a MOM site… why would the men want in?

I did vote for dads. I’d hate to see the party crashed by spammy blogs.

I think all blogs should be welcome. Afterall, it’s called the Ultimate Blog Party, not the Ultimate MOM Blog Party. Mom bloggers should expand their readership, dads have important things to share and say as well.

I think Daddy bloggers should be able to join in too; Daddies have great insight to help use be better Mommies!

I’d be fine with women only or daddy bloggers. While I understand why people don’t want to exclude anyone, I like finding other parenting and women authored blogs during the UBP. If the list gets any larger then it will be even harder to “visit” all the parties. Of the 200+ I visited last year, I found 5 I still read daily and 15 still in my feed reader. I’m so glad that I found some of these blogs and know that I wouldn’t have without the UBP but I didn’t even make it through a quarter of the blogs that participated.

I don’t know how interested I would be in party hopping through a lot of blogs I’m indifferent to. While it is the Ultimate Blog Party, it’s also sponsored by 5 Minutes for MOM which I associate with parenting and women.

Personally, as a dad blogger, I voted for us too, just because I love reading all the mommy blogs out there. It gives a great insight that we as men definitely need from time to time :)

Regardless of the outcome of the poll, I’ll still come back here to read as many blogs as I can. This is a great community for moms, so I fully support if it remains for ladies only.

I voted for Dad’s. But really isn’t half the fun of blogging finding all the different types of blogs out there.
Of course I am a Dad and Grandad and really am having trouble understanding why you would not invite everyone. My feelings are hurt.
But I will still send the link to my wife.

I say as long as they are blogs that are associated with being a MOM or DAD, they should be allowed to participate. Now a dad that has a Sci-Fi blog or something un-related to being a parent shouldn’t be allowed.

OH yeah… or any blog on being a grandparent too should be OK. As long as it’s related to families.

I think it’d be alright to include dad bloggers. I don’t necessarily want to include everyone because we could end up with alot of websites “advertising” instead of doing this to make friends and have fun.

I’m fine with having daddies included. They’re out there trying to do the same as us, you know? Equality works for me – mom, dads, grandparents, etc. So long as they are family friendly, I’m fine :)

This was a hard one to decide. It is hosted by a mom site but 5 Mins. for Moms isn’t just about moms anymore, it’s about parenting and family and so I guess what I’m saying is I think it should include mommy blogs, daddy blogs and grandparenting blogs. It’s all about families and how each of us as moms, dads or grandparents see and affect the lives of the children in our lives that we love.

I think it should be kept as a mom only, women only blog. This is of course for women to bring women together.

maybe if it’s categorized into MOM blogs and DAD blogs for those who are looking for specific blogs. for those who doesn’t care, then the categories wouldn’t matter.

It seems like since this event is sponsored by 5 Minutes for Moms, it should be women only. I don’t have any objection to Dad bloggers being included in principle, though, except that this thing is SO huge already, it’s hard to get around to even a fraction of the participants. I just can’t imagine opening it up even further.

I’d like to propose someone open a 5 Minutes for Dads site which can then host a blog party concurrently with this one (probably next time as it is so close to this year’s.)

Speaking of the hugeness of the UBP, I’d also like to encourage people to not just start visiting with those at the top of the list and going down the list til you run out of time — that way the first ones listed get multitudes of visitors while the others get few or none. But perhaps you might want to start by visiting the 20 or so above your own entry, then branch out from there as you have time. Just a suggestion.

Speaking as a woman with a disability (paralysis from a car accident), unless there is a really significant reason to exclude people, why in the world would you? We already have enough prejudice, hate and fear in the world. Making this exclusive to women only, in my opinion would leave out others in our society that might have something important and/or valuable to contribute. :)
