Tackle it Tuesday #139: Taming the Sock Monster

Written by JenaW

Tackle It Tuesday
Tackle it Tuesday: Conquering the Sock Monster

CarrieHi! I’m Carrie from Life is Like A Mountain Railway.

My life is sometimes pretty crazy. I am a SAHM to 3 children, 5 and under, homeschooling the oldest child, and I have a husband who attends college full-time and works part-time. I am attempting to be thrifty while staying sane, all with a smile on my face. I love doing Tackle it Tuesdays; they provide inspiration to do those little ‘extra’ projects that I so seldom make time for in my busy schedule.

Today I’m tackling my childrens’ sock drawers, and the dreaded mismatched sock pile. I swear that the socks take over your laundry when you have 5 people in your family! I’ve come to think my middle child has it out for me, as I catch him getting a new pair of socks at least 3x per day!

My goal:
Match the socks missing their mates
Remove all outgrown socks from the drawers

Before - pile of mismatched socks on floor and in small white basket, and the children’s sock drawers:

After - cleaned out sock drawers, HUGE pile of at least 30 pairs of outgrown socks (I can hear my sweet babe’s chubby little ankles thanking me now, for no more sock lines from too tight socks), and only a few mismatched socks left over (I guess you can’t win them all).

Jena, the organizing mommy says: Hey! Good job on the socks. You even matched them up so nicely.

Thanks for the many volunteers for guest tackles! If you haven’t had your chance to be a guest tackler, it’s so fun and easy. Write up a tackle, putting your links in parentheses like this: organized everyday (http://organizedeveryday.blogspot.com/) and then add a few pictures in the attachment. Send it to the tackleittuesday[at]gmail[dot]com.

Happy tackling ladies…

Oh good job with the socks – I need to tackle that one soon too! :)

susieshomemade @ 7:34 am

That’s a great tackle! I need to do that soon. I knew there was a monster in the closet!!

As soon as you throw out that mismatched sock, you will find its mate!

Can you come over and do mine next! I have tons of mismatched socks!
Toni

Way to go! I have so many mismatched socks, it isn’t funny :/

Faith @ 10:19 am

Wow, look at all those socks! Looks great, bet you’re glad that’s done!

Heather @ 10:39 am

Socks are always a downfall for me – way to go!

Lisa @ 10:51 am

When my 11-year-old was sick this past week, I folded his laundry for him and discovered that he doesn’t match his socks. He simply throws them all in a drawer. Socks are quite the tackle!

This week we tackled sickness with essential oils.

Wilma @ 11:04 am

WOW! That was a big scary sock monster! Good Job!

Socks are the bane of my existance! We live in WI where its plenty cold, but the kids just WON’T keep their socks on their feet! ARRRRGGG…

Great tackle! Its a never-ending battle, isn’t it?

Tanya @ 11:31 am

The socks belonging to my 2 year old and 6 year old have been different enough to keep somewhat organized. They each have their own wicker basket for socks. Recently, though, I’ve noticed it’s becoming harder to tell them apart. The 2 year old’s basket is very full, but the 6 year old’s basket is looking pretty lean. Funny how that happens! I enjoyed your post. Good job!

Donetta @ 11:44 am

there is no mr linky

Christa @ 3:04 pm

I tend to toss mismatched socks on top of the dryer in the hopes of someday pulling out the match. As a mom to four that means I end up with a dryer covered in socks. My husband has never understood how it can take a good part of the day to get sock drawers cleaned out so next time I might assign him the daunting task! Good job getting your sock monsters tamed!

Rita @ 3:07 pm

Wow. This is a great idea! I think I need to get to work right away. With 5 kids, socks are everywhere!

Jessica @ 6:18 pm

What a great tackle! This week we tackled “ways to save kids artwork”.

L2L @ 6:42 pm

We too have a family of five, I feel your pain!!! I just recently decided white socks for every one!!!! With all those left over socks you should make had puppets!!!! LOL

Jenny Skinner @ 7:00 pm

Socks – arrgh!! They ARE a nightmare!

But I did tackle something else today. I finally moved my crafting/office space from the dining room table to an actual office. Yeah! It’s organized – I feel like I can breathe now. Here’s some pics: http://www.skinnerstudio.blogspot.com

Dawn @ 10:40 pm

No socks here either, just a nasty bedroom and a very disorganized linen closet

Erika @ 11:37 pm

I have to tackle this, too. Actually, I did part of it last night – pulling out all the old worn out or outgrown pairs and tossing them. I put the mismatches in a box and decided that next Monday I’ll go through them again and if I still haven’t found their mates they’d get tossed as well. I’m hoping this will become a habitual Monday chore… guess we will see!
