A New Way of Thanking People for Baby Gifts {Guest Post}

Today our guest poster is Ashley. She is sharing with us her new way of thanking friends and family for their thoughtful baby gifts.

Before and after the arrival of our little girl we were overwhelmed with the incredible generosity of our family and friends. We were so fortunate to have received such beautiful gifts to welcome our new addition in to the world. Upon receiving the gifts we made sure to add all of the items into a notebook so that we could record the gifts that people gave us. This was helpful both for writing thank you cards and also to keep as a reference so that we could look back and remember who gave us what.

In addition to keeping our reference book, I also decided to keep a record of the clothes that people gave us.

My Magic Trick…

On the inside of each article of clothing, I wrote the person’s name who gave us the article of clothing. Now, each outfit that was given to us as a gift has a name on the inside tag. When our daughter wears an outfit that was given to her we are sure to take a picture and send it as a thank you to the person who gave it to us.

In Person…

Also, if we are going to be seeing those people, I’m sure to dress her in the outfit that they gave her so that they can see it on her. Having the names right inside the clothes, makes this easy. I don’t know about you, but If I buy clothes for someone’s baby, I love to see how the outfit looks on them,  so this was a handy little way for me to stay organized.

Show The Love On Facebook…

Another option that you can use to thank people for a sweet baby gift is to add the picture of the baby in her “gift” to your Facebook photo album  and tag that person in the picture so that everyone can see the beautiful gift that they gave you.

Ashley is a full time stay-at-home mom who blogs on her daily life at Thank You For the Smiles. Every night when her husband got home from work, their daughter would look up at him with the biggest smile and he would say “thank you for the smiles”.  It was so heart-warming that she decided it was the perfect name for her blog. You can also find her sharing on Twitter and Facebook.

That is such a great idea! I had such good intentions of doing the same thing – taking pictures of my son in each gifted outfit and sending them to the giver. Unfortunately, I tried to keep a list of who got him one and by the time he was born two months later and then grew into said outfits, one “Bear outfit from Aunt Mary” looked just like four other bear outfits and my elaborate list of gifts was just a confusing maze that my sleep deprived self couldn’t figure out. I LOVE the idea of writing it on the tags!

      Me too!

This idea would have come in SO handy when my kids were little.

Last one, check! It works the best for me, seeing that most of our friends are online in FB. Even if we don’t see each other often, I can easily upload pics and they’d see that what they’ve given as gifts have been useful to us.

      Hi Les

Yes! FB is a great way to let family and friends see the gift being used 🙂

    Hi Amy,

Thanks for your kind comment. I love your idea about using the chalkboard. That’s an awesome way to thank people.
I’m glad you like the name as well. It is very meaningful to us.
Unfortunately the link above isn’t working for some reason but you can check out the blog at http://www.thankyouforthesmiles.wordpress.com

Love this post. I actually did this with our daughter too (with outfits and such). I wrote on a chalkboard “thank you” and had her with it in some pictures. 🙂 Great idea and sweet blog name!
