As a child I have no memory of eating leftovers. Isn’t that odd? Certainly my mother cooked dinner every night, but I have no recollection of her serving the same meal two nights in a row. Well, perhaps it isn’t so odd when you consider that I spent part of my childhood in England where we had a teeny fridge, which was only slightly larger than a dorm fridge. My mother was forced to shop every day, since there was little space in the fridge for food storage.
By comparison my home is chocked full of food storage units — one fridge in the kitchen and one in the garage — as well as a freezer. Like many moms and dads, I would be lost without my freezer. Squeezed in among the frozen foods and desserts are my saving grace. What is this saving grace?
I would be totally and utterly lost without freezer storage bags. In fact top on my list each major shopping trip is purchasing storage bags of different sizes. I store beef, chicken, and Italian sausages that I buy in bulk. I individually store the right amount for dinner. I love knowing that all I need to do is reach in to the freezer for the meat that I will need for the evening meal. Once I defrost it, add a sauce, and rice or pasta — the evening meal is just about done.
Did you know?
Did you know, that while 81 percent of Americans are looking for more ways to incorporate fresh ingredients into mealtime, less than 50 percent actually eat fruits and vegetables on a daily basis – a clear disparity between American’s outlook on eating fresh foods versus the reality of mealtime. The Ziploc Fresh Eating Survey has revealed that families want to eat fresh but are hungry for resources to do so.
Ziploc recently introduced a line of storage bags — Ziploc Perfect Portions. These bags are perfect for freezing single servings of food. Perhaps you and your husband eat Tilapia, but the kids prefer fish sticks. Well, all you need to do is bulk buy fish and store each portion in to one of these single serving Ziploc Perfect Portions storage bags.
Here’s how the Ziploc Perfect Portions bags work:
- Place your hand inside the Ziploc Perfect Portions bag to pick up your desired serving or “perfect portion.”
- Turn the bag inside out.
- Press the air out of the bag. Fold and twist.
- Place the individual storage bags in to a Ziploc brand freezer bag.
- And you’re done with food storage!
Why use Ziploc Perfect Portions bags?
- Using the bags helps reduce raw meat contact on hands and in the kitchen.
- The bags form a virtual seal around the meat.
- The sealed bags reduce the risk of freezer burn.
- Easy to thaw ONLY the serving size of meat that you need. Less waste.
