Fashion Forward Maternity Review and Giveaway

As a mother of five, I have been pregnant approximately 45 months. That’s almost 4 years. And because I was pregnant in both the 90s (twice) and the 2000s (three times) the fashions and styles for maternity clothes changed a LOT.

Not only did fashions change between pregnancies, let’s face it: every pregnant mother that I have ever talked with has mentioned getting tired of wearing the same handful of shirts and the same two or three pairs of pants for months on end. And don’t even get me started on getting dressed up. I hated having to spend money on a fancy outfit that I could only wear once.

Although I did swap maternity clothes with a few of my friends over the years, the idea of renting maternity clothes didn’t occur to me until I received an email about Fashion Forward Maternity. What a brilliant idea! Why not borrow maternity clothes while pregnant, have a fresh wardrobe several times during the pregnancy, and never worry about fashions going out of style for “next time.”

Fashion Forward Maternity is an “online boutique that provides savvy, stylish, professional women with the opportunity to rent high-quality, designer maternity fashions at a fraction of the price to serve them during every phase of pregnancy, from the first trimester to nursing.” I love the fact that it is a woman-owned business. These are moms who have been pregnant before and know what pregnant moms need.

How often did YOU grow out of maternity clothes that fit you earlier in your pregnancy? It happened every time to me.

Fashion Forward maternity designers

Fashion Forward Maternity includes pieces from today’s hottest maternity designers including Crave, Ripe, Maternal America, Nom, Japanese Weekend, Seraphine, Jules and Jim, Annee Matthew, Olian, paige denim, James Jeans, and more!

How it works

You can chose to either pay for a monthly rental subscription or rent items individually. You then return the items you’ve rented and exchange them for new pieces. With the monthly subscription option, you can chose to borrow 12, 18, or 26 items per month. The savings based on buying each item is incredible.

What happens to clothes after they’ve been rented a few times?

All gently used clothes that can no longer be rented are “passed forward” and donated to organizations that support women in need around the country, including Dress for Success and Goodwill.

Our experience

I have several friends who are pregnant right now. I asked my friend Becky if she would help me with this review by going through the process of renting some items off of the Fashion Forward Maternity website. She started out by searching through the selection and found 3 items that she was excited about.

Becky said that the process of ordering the clothes online was quick and easy. She also received the items soon after placing her order. The clothes were in great condition when they arrived, but unfortunately, none of them fit her. The two small items were too small and the medium was too large.

Becky suggested that including information about sizing (rather than just a drop-down with S, M, L) would be helpful, as well as measurements for particular items. Since all clothing brands (maternity or not) have such different standards for sizing, more information to help customers find the right size is needed.

This is such a GREAT idea! I am part of a circle of friends who have shared maternity clothing over the years, but no one ever thought of this angle. I hope they do well with their business!
