Tackle It Tuesday #124

Written by LisaW

Hello Tacklers!

It is Lisa from Confessions of an Apron Queen here today. I am your new head tackler here at 5 Minutes for Mom and I am excited for my first day on the job…

There is a reason I wear an apron. It’s because I’m a messy cook. And it tends to get even messier when our two girls join me in the kitchen. We recently tackled preparing some of our favorite Italian dishes for a fun little blog series I’ve been working on about Italy.

Tackle It Tuesdays #1 re-sized

Not to mention, cooking is always messier when I’m working on a blog post. Typically, I struggle to keep my messes out of the camera’s viewfinder. I’m not a clean-up-as-you-go type of cook either. I just shove everything onto the countertops beside me or behind me. By the time we are done in the kitchen, it generally looks like some sort of explosion. Food everywhere, dirty dishes everywhere!

Time to call in the clean-up crew! Oh wait, we are the clean-up crew. So, I guess I’ll put the little one on dishwashing duty. My girls are such wonderful helpers around the house. They truly enjoy their chores.

In fact, they both like sweeping the floor so much that they fight over the broom. OK, I just wish that were true. But, a Mom can dream can’t she?

Tackle It Tuesdays #7

We threw out the trash. We put food back away in the cabinets and refrigerator. We washed the dishes. We wiped down the countertops. We swept the floors. And the Italian pork chops are simmering away on the stove.

So, it’s time for the girls to put in a movie now. Because it’s Date Night for me and the hubby. Except, we aren’t going out. We’re just going to sit by our pool. No kids allowed. Time to catch up on conversation while sipping some wine and a nibbling from a fruit and cheese platter. It really doesn’t get any better than that.

Fantastic tackle. Great team effort! Love the fact that you included photos as it’s always great to put a face to the name.

I only have a teeny tiny tackle this week but with big results.

Cheers and look forward to your next one.

#2 - Susan @ 12:09 am

Amazing photos!!! I want to eat that fruit plate soooo badly.

I can relate on the messy cook thing… My kitchen is a complete wreck once I’ve cooked anything substantial.

#3 - Robyn - Mom All Day @ 12:14 am

Great job working together on this tackle! Great pictures too! Very inspirational!!

#4 - heidi @ 12:17 am

#5 - Deb - Mom of 3 Girls @ 12:25 am

Welcome, Lisa! Wow, you really made me want to sit down with my girls and actually cook something together. I’m not a big cook, but I know I need to do more of it, especially with them. Great tackle! :)

#6 - Amber (BGH) @ 12:27 am

I think your tackle was probably way more fun than mine!

I’m a messy cook, too, especially while blogging about it. So I completely understand. Great job!

#7 - Peggy @ 1:55 am

Welcome Lisa! Wow, that was a great picture you painted - sitting by the pool with your husband, having some wine and a fruit and cheese platter. *ENVIOUS* Sounds like the perfect date!

#11 - Andrea @ 7:37 am

Hi Lisa! Congrats on becoming the new tackler! You’re a great choice! :)

It’s encouraging to know that mine isn’t the only kitchen that gets destroyed during the cooking process! I can’t wait until my kids are old enough to REALLY help me with the cleaning up process, instead of just the messing up part!

#12 - Kimberly/Mom in the City @ 8:00 am

Great tackle. I love cooking with my son too - it’s a very bonding experience.

This week I’m “tackling” my pre-k son’s first fundraising drive. I’d definitely love any input!

I did a major kitchen tackle this week too. It just feels so much better when the kitchen is in order…I should do it more often.

That’s great your girls like to wash dishes. I haven’t taught my boys to do that yet.

We also enjoyed some Italian food this past week, along with Asian-inspired fare.

#31 - Annie @ SisterWisdom @ 6:09 pm

Finally got this done… whew. Uploading the photos took almost as long as organizing the closet. YAY for clean and organized clothes.
MMMM I’m hungry now… that food looks great.

Looks a lot like my kitchen during cooking. It feels good to clean it up…after enjoying what you just made, of course!

#34 - Erin from Graco @ 9:36 am

That looked like so much fun! I can’t wait until Thanksgiving so I can cook with my Mom and Grandmom.

Oh and I LOVE date nights at home!
