Tackle It Tuesday – Cardmunch those Business Cards

Tackle It Tuesday

It’s been a month since BlogHer 2011 in San Diego, but I’m proud to say for the first time ever… I tackled my pile of business cards!

Every time I come home from a blogging conference, I have a stack of business cards from awesome people that I met and I want to add them to my address book and visit their websites.

But… I never have time to copy all those details from each card into my contacts and get them organized.

Now, for those of you who know me well, you will realize that, considering it takes me at least two weeks to unpack my suitcase, you will know that those cards are going to stay in their stack and eventually get added to other bags full of cards.

Well no more…

Thanks to a suggestion from Tania Reuben of Pure Natural Diva, I used the CardMunch app and tackled those cards.

Cardmunch does need an iPhone with a video camera to operate.

I was amazed with how easy and quick it was to use…

I logged in with my LinkedIn (CardMunch is now part of LinkekIn) user name and password and then clicked the camera icon. It lights up the flash and brings up a screenshot area to fit the card details into. Then a tap of the finger and it takes a photo that, as it says, if I can read it, they can read it. So, I click the green check box and it’s ready for the next one.

Now, like I said, I had a ton so I just clicked through my cards and, by the time I was done, most were already transcribed into contact fields along with the photo of the card.

Apparently, it is humans doing this somewhere and it’s amazing. It just works.

The contacts can be read on an iPhone in the CardMunch app, or I can log into their web site and see them there. They can be edited, deleted, exported into other formats such as Outlook and, with one tap, can be added to your LinkedIn contacts.

How cool is that?

Plus, to make me feel better about myself, it even told me how much time I’d saved from not doing the entries manually myself. I’d entered 118 cards and saved 3 hours eight minutes and 21 seconds.

So, no more scary bags of wasted contacts for me…

Did you know that Janice and I also run a couple of online toy stores? You can find tons of adorable gift ideas, like these cute stuffed animals. My favorite are the giant plush dogs.

Such a helpful post! I’m totally gonna try that out! And I’m think just cleaning my house, laundry and washing the dog will be my week. Although I would love to do the follow up from BlogHer I’ve been meaning to do.

I don’t collect many business cards any longer, but I do have LOTS of slips of paper to process and address labels to record. Thank you! for the inspiration!
