Tackle It Tuesday #119

by Carolyn*

Hi there ladies!

I am excited! Today is our first day to have a Featured Tackler here!

This week we have Michelle :o)

Michelle has been tackling with us for a year now, she is a wife and a mom, a Christian and a horror author with new pinky-bling glasses. What? Those all go together, don’t they? She hangs out at her personal blog, Twitter, and at her newest venture: The Horrible HomeSchooler.

If you too would like to be a Featured Tackler here at 5 Minutes for Mom please email me at…

Now here’s Michelle…

I’ve tried to make a conscious effort the past six weeks to keep up my previous tackles because the Fly Lady I ain’t. (Get dressed and put on shoes every morning? You have got to be kidding me.) So every week I’ve been looking at my pretty After Tackle pictures to inspire me to spend a few minutes putting things away or straightening up. So far, it’s working.

If my husband would just hire a maid for me, I wouldn’t have to worry. Since I don’t think he has plans for that anytime soon, I guess it’ll just have to be up to me. Why do they give these jobs to people who can’t do them? I mean, really. Wouldn’t it make more sense to make sure the candidate is qualified? I’m not sure I’ll ever be June Cleaver or Martha Stuart. Really, I don’t even aspire to be. They scare me.

  • My desk is okay, it could use a touch up.
  • The kitchen drawer has been maintained the best for some reason.
  • My dining room table could also use about 5 minutes of TLC.
  • The sideboard and Homeschool shelf I did last week are still sparkling (No. I didn’t move the picture and the sconces.)

I’m aware that’s only four weeks. I don’t want to talk about the fifth.

Today I’m tackling my kitchen. I timed it, too. It only took me 20 minutes!

In the spirit of honesty, take a look at that little towel (is that called a tea towel?) hanging there under the coffee cup shelf. It says Tuesday.

The last time I changed that towel was Tuesday January 22. (Did I just say that in front of everyone?) It’s a decoration! I haven’t been actually using the same towel since January. That would just be gross. And I’m not gross. Just lazy busy with things that don’t involve decluttering.

Hush. I know it’s not as bad as taking the Christmas Tree down in July. (So that was the fifth. There. I said it. Are you happy?)

Before my 20 minute tackle:
Those are mostly clean dishes that I didn’t put away.
Because I’m lazy busy.

After:Did I mention how much I love staring at the before and after photos?

I did my tackle early this week (EARLY–did you read that?!) so that I could be featured here (oh what was I thinking?!) I changed the little towel and now it says Saturday. Visit me in six months or so and I might change it again!

You can see all of my tackles here.

Great tackle!! Doesn’t it feel great to get things accomplished?:-)

That’s a dramatic before and after. Great job!

Last month, all of my “tackles” involved preparing my son Michael for preschool. This month, they will all be about preparing ME for the fall. This week, I’ll be “tackling” my mommy hair!

This concept is AWESOME. What a great way to create accountability without having to go to a “my-closet’s-a-mess anonymous!!! I can’t wait to do those areas of my home I ALWAYS avoid. Thank you

Oh yeah, great job Michelle! One thing at a time is the way to “tackle” it. :)

Michelle is too funny! I love your kitchen, Michelle, and it is THE BEST feeling in the world to have a clean kitchen, is it not? You’re great!

Good for you dearie.

15 Kalisha (Mommy Lounge) September 2, 2008 at 9:26 am

Michelle! Your kitchen looks great! Come and do mine please!
You are right about being qualified, I don’t think I’m qualified to do housework either.
I have been trying to follow the flylady’s morning routine and my husband just said to me the other day that it isn’t working so I need to try something different! My rebuttle was that I haven’t been fully commited to it so if I follow that routine every day it should work. :-)

Just a question to throw out there; Have you ever cleaned your vacuum? I never did until the other day. I would always look at the dust and grime building up on it until I decided to shine it up a bit. And afterwards it looked brand new and I enjoyed vaccuming with it!
I’m sure Martha Stewart cleans her vacuum. (Is that how you spell vaccum or vacuum?) Oh well, thanks for sharing your tackle.

I love before and after photos to. Last weeks project was so big I had to do the after the next day, but I did tackle it.
Your kitchen looks great, now I just need to get to mine.

22 Amy September 2, 2008 at 2:00 pm

Before and after pictures are pretty much my only inspiration, too; otherwise I can’t seem to get myself up and moving. But if there are pictures? I’m SO there! Nice job on the kitchen, Michelle.
