Win an AT&T Cordless Phone

With wireless networks and two separate phone lines using cordless handsets, both Susan and my houses are interference nightmares.

But after trying out different cordless phones, I found a V-Tech 2.4 Ghz worked well and didn’t interfere with either my wireless network or my other 5.8Ghz cordless phone.

(Susan on the other hand, uses two different 5.8Ghz cordless phones. Her phones interfere with her wireless and with each other all the time. It is very annoying. She needs to pick up a new phone. But don’t tell her about the new one I just got. She might steal it!)

As I said, I have been perfectly happy with my affordable V-Tech. But, a month ago it started to die a slow, painful death. I don’t blame it for giving out on me. We are not easy on our phones. I drop them at least a dozen times a day and I use them all the time. (I think Susan and I talk on the phone at least 30 times a day!)

So just when I was about to go to the store to get a new V-Tech, one of those wonderful PR firms who help bring us all these great contests emailed to ask me if I wanted to review an AT&T DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone. Now that is some good timing!

(Yes – since Susan has to flee her wireless and hide downstairs in her office to get good reception on her cordless phone, I probably should have passed this review phone on to her. But honestly – I didn’t even think about Susan! I just jumped on the wonderful timing and skipped my outing to Staples.)

After charging the sleek, cool phone (complete with two handsets,) I plugged it in and held my breath. Would it work? Would I crackle and disappear when I moved near my computer???

The DECT 6.0 technology did not disappoint me! It is crystal clear and works throughout my house and even down the block! Today, I took it on a walk down the street while talking to my friend Crystal to test it out and you should have heard us. We were like an infomercial ad.

“So I am testing out this phone, tell me how I sound okay?”

“You sound great so far”

“Oh my gosh – I am half way down the block… I am coming to the end of the street”

“You are kidding me – it sounds perfect.”

“I know – and it only costs sixty-nine bucks!”

“No way!”

So what is this DECT 6.0 technology and why does it work so well? I had no idea, but WikiAnswers enlightened me:

Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT 6.0) is a standard that uses the 1.9 Ghz band for cordless phones. It is relatively new in the US market but has been in use in Europe for quite some time. The purported advantage of this communications frequency is reduced interference with and from other devices, most notably wireless networks, garage door openers, microwave devices, baby monitors, etc. Additionally it should offer greater range from the base, enhanced call clarity, and the ability to utilize multiple handsets with a single base unit POTS connection.

Ah – so that is why it works so well for me!

According to AT&T, “independent Wyle lab studies found that the new AT&T phones provided up to a 190-feet range around or outside the home, compared to the 160-feet range offered by competing DECT phones.”

I don’t have a testing lab here, but it is working for me! I am totally impressed. And these new AT&T DECT 6.0 phone systems come bundled with up to five handsets and range from $59.95-$129.95 – making them accessible for most budgets and households.

Now, Susan needs to go buy one of these phones too.

If you want to win an AT&T SL82218 DECT 6.0 Digital Dual Handset Cordless Telephone with Answering System and Caller ID, just leave a comment here. We will announce the winner August 16th, 2008.

My cordless phone can sit on the charger for a week straight, as soon as I get a call the battery life lasts 5 minutes. It is so hard to talk to anyone

Thanks for introducing me to this phone! My house is constantly running a million wireless and electronic devices at once, so interference and static on the landline have been something we just live with, so this new technology sounds perfect. Thanks for the chance to win.
