Tackle It Tuesday #112

Written by Carolyn

Hello ladies, I’m still here tackling my depression… or trying to at least.

I’m so bad right now that I noticed that wonderful schedule I shared with you 5 weeks ago was actually making my depression worse because I was not getting things done… and to see that both on paper and in person was throwing me for a loop!

So I decided to make another check list, but for the whole week instead of having it day to day…

Well that weekly check list has been up on my whiteboard for like 3 weeks now with only a couple checks on it!

Here it is…

  • Put ALL clothes away (yes I have more)
    • Folded clothes
    • Hung clothes
    • Donated clothes
    • Stored clothes
  • Fix one of my two broken vacuums
    • vacuum couches
    • vacuum floors
  • Clean bathroom
  • Mop kitchen floor
  • Do NSD & JC paperwork
  • Call Pediatrician and Neighborhood Housing

I am sharing this with you this week so I can hopefully show it to you again next week all marked off! (With before and after photos :o)

Blogging accountability at it’s best!

P.S. Thank you SO much for your encouraging, motivating and even loving comments in previous weeks… they mean more to me than you know. Many times they would bring a smile to my face while crying - just knowing that someone else out there really seemed to genuinely understand what I am going through!

It’s blesses me to know that you are encouraging each others as well, because that is truely what this is all about.

Love you ladies!

Ugh, I find that lists tend to do that to me too, so I try to avoid them if I can. Except that I never remember what I need to do otherwise, so I end up having to use them anyway. :)

#2 - Mrs. Querido @ 3:25 am

Laundry…the never ending necessary evil! My downfall is putting it away once it is folded. Oh, and I tend to leave clothing in the washer and dryer…for days…lol! My husband HATES that!

Sorry to hear about your depression. Remember to celebrate little victories! And find joy in whatever you can. Chocolate helps too :) (Well, but then the weight gain can be pretty depressing too…nevermind)

I hope your week gets better!

Blessings!

Carolyn, I am sooooo sorry to hear you’re still depressed… I know it is unbelievably hard. I agree that sometimes checklists can be even more upsetting if you see them unchecked for too long.

One thing I read somewhere that I find helpful is saying to yourself, “I CHOOSE to fold my laundry right now.” Instead of “I HAVE to fold my laundry right now.” It might sound silly, but I find it helps a LITTLE. But then most of my laundry goes unfolded for days. LOL

#4 - SheilaG @ 8:52 am

I actually don’t mind folding laundry. It’s relaxing. I get to think.

What I hate is ironing. Ugh. I tried to get out of it for years by catching the dryer at just the right time, but Keith’s shirts still didn’t look right. But then, he often irons his own stuff because I don’t do it well!

Goodluck on your checklist! It does make you more accountable to have it written down. That is something I dread doing. I can’t write a to do list to save my life because it reminds me too much of school and having people tell me what to do! lol I guess I don’t even want myself telling me what to do…When I get the notion to tackle I just do it–and today I tackled the art cabinet. It looks great now–let’s see how long it stays that way!

#6 - Robyn - Mom All Day @ 9:24 am

I love this site! I have accomplished a lot and still have a lot to do. Garbage and laundry are on todays list. I have a few blogs, one being Mom All Day that I just started and I’ve been surfing around looking for great mom sites and found yours! I need to go catch up on it now. lol Thanks! Robyn

The School Table. It’s become a catch-all and needs to be cleared, organized, purged and completely made ready for new supplies and materials, for Pete’s sake!

New here–came by on recommendation from several other bloggers who seem to relish their 5 minutes….

#8 - Lisa (Morning Rose) @ 9:40 am

Hope you get more items checked off your list. I need to work on mine too. I tackled my closet shelf this week and feel much more organized, at least with my clothes.

#9 - The Butterfly Catcher @ 9:44 am

Carolyn, I wish you much luck on getting your list done for next week! I’m finding that accountability is definitely a help! Praying God’s blessings for you!

#10 - donetta @ 9:44 am

O.K. Now Add you to that list…A little extra protein and some B12 to help the stress factor. My antidepressants are working much better now if I take them by 8pm. That way I am not too tired in the morning. Also Sleep is essential even if you can do a couple of power naps.

I am guilty of making list & then feeling overwhelmed by them also. I am having to learn that when my children are home, it is ok if I don’t complete my whole list.

#12 - Organizing Mommy @ 9:52 am

I agree with Donetta (above). I, too have struggled with depression. About 7 years ago, I finally saw a dr. about it. Remember, it’s fun to post about what we are doing, but sometimes its not about doing–it’s about becoming or being. Don’t compare yourself to others either. You are at a unique place in your life–a hard one! Has God given you grace for today? Just one day at a time.

#13 - Amydeanne @ 10:07 am

I hope you get it under control. I know what it’s like to deal with it. I really like how you broke down your list today.. baby steps are far more encouraging!!!

#14 - Renee @ 10:42 am

Sorry to hear about the “blues” Hope you feel better soon!!!!

I to had depression after our first was born and now with the second on the way it’s not the best!!!! but I try one thing done! only one and it makes me feel better.

#15 - Colleen - Mommy Always Wins @ 11:44 am

Just stick to it, woman! You’ll make progress…slowly but surely!

#16 - Mad Squirrel @ 12:08 pm

I suffer from depression too but I went an herbal way and I am so much better!
Mine is up and it is of the blogging nature.

#17 - Jennifer Tiszai @ 12:41 pm

I battle depression too and it’s been kinda bad lately. I know my housework is always the first thing that goes. And then I feel guilty because I’m a single mom and there’s nobody to pick up the slack when I’m not up to it. But I figure God knows and He does give me the grace to do what I need to do, which really is FAR less than what I think I need to do. And today, I felt up to getting my house straightened up and I do feel good about that.

Keep plugging away and thanks for being so open about your depression. It’s encouraging me to be more open about it too.

#18 - christieo @ 1:25 pm

hi!! i’m not doing a tackle it today but your post broke my heart! i went through a long bout of post partum and it was really really rough. i have since come out of it but one thing i want to tell you is that while you’re going through your depression (and everyone’s is different i know) but sweetheart, ditch the list! you’re putting too much pressure on yourself while it’s tough just to get through the day! i think you should do what you feel like doing, but try to do something that will make you happy, even if it’s something simple like take a really long bath. maybe instead of a long list, just pick one thing a day and make it a “goal” instead of a “chore”. and if you don’t get to it, so what?? forgive yourself! It’s ok! To me, getting through a depression means just getting through the day, as easily as you can do it. i will be thinking about you. :)

#19 - Amy @ 2:09 pm

Ya know, Carolyn, I’m proud of you for not giving up. The fact that you’re still trying to move forward speaks volumes to me about your heart, and I’m rooting for you to get everything done and find your way out of the depression!

#20 - Muthering Heights @ 9:31 pm

I feel so sad for you when I read about your depression, as I have a similar problem. But I’m proud of you for pushing through and accomplishing so much! :)

I hope you were able to get some of your tackles tackled, :). Sometimes looking at each thing as a small task all by itself can help, that way you don’t get overwhelmed. I hope you are feeling better this week.
Have a blessed day,
Kathy C.
