Having two young teenagers in my house, this topic of dicussion has come up. It's so important for the kids to realize that just because it's a prescription that doesn't mean it's safe.Parents also need to take an active role and be sure those meds are locked up or at least not located in an easily accessible place.

This is such a scary concept. We are homeschoolers and I know that among HS families there is a HUGE misconception that because we homeschool & our kids are with us all the time that we will not have to face issues like drugs, sexual promiscuity and other "diseases" of society. They are decieved totally. I have 5 teenagers and I know that even though we talk openly about things I don't know all that goes on with them. I just pray that God will allow them to get caught early if they do decide to test the waters.
Thanks for reminding us to be on guard to the dangers our kids face.

This is a great post! The speakers were talking about the epidemic of anhedonia (inability to experience pleasure) that is becoming more common among young people. The speaker was making the case that as we overstimulate our kids (especially with electonic amusements that enrapture them but don't encourage their own creativity or ability to enjoy the small things in life), they seek continually more "exciting" things in order to "feel something."I know there are so many layers to why/how people get involved in drugs--of any sort. I agree that as parents we do need to be aware of all the kinds of influences that might lead our kids down that road. We've got a family member who is a classic example of the long-term problems of getting involved in drugs. It's a fervent prayer of mine that we help our kids make good choices--and to specifically make the choice to stay away from all illicit drug use. Thanks for raising the issue.http://RefreshMoments.com

This kind of dovetails with something I heard on a radio program yesterday. It scares me that one day he may be in a situation where he might be pressured into trying something he really doesn't want to try. I am hoping that our talks educate him enough to make him realize that he doesn't need to use drugs to be cool or accepted by others and that the dark side of drugs can ultimately ruin or end his life.

My son is 9 and we talk openly all subjects including drugs. Now a days, there is a pill for everything and now this is practically availbale to everyone in your house hold. It is scary how easy it is for teen to use and abuse this, no money needed to buy, easy access and they do not seem to worry about it. Cleaning out your prescriptions is always good, but limiting access is also a must. Nothing is safe in a bathroom cabinet. It just makes me think "what will my 2 year old be faced with when she grows up?" in the realm of drugs....so scary! Talking to them seems to be the way to go and hope that they make the right decision when faced with a situation. Thank you again!
