We are joining up with Capessa to present 10 Tips for Celebrating Mother’s Day. Five of our tips are here, and five more tips can be found HERE on Capessa’s site. If you’d like to be entered to win a $200 American Express gift certificate, leave a comment on this post giving your favorite tip from each site.
5 Things to do for Yourself for Mother’s Day
- Take some time to reflect on your year as a mom. Make a journal entry or write yourself a letter chronicling the ups and downs of parenting.
- Instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. See a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike.
- Sleep late! Your hubby can handle the kids’ morning routine, and they might surprise you with a gourmet breakfast in bed (or soggy cereal, but it’s the thought that counts, right?).
- Alone on Mother’s Day? Team up with other single moms and their kids to celebrate. Do something fun that you and the kids all enjoy.
- Do you want to be alone on Mother’s Day? Don’t feel guilty about taking some time away. After you’ve celebrated as a family, escape by yourself for a couple hours to browse a bookstore or meet up with a girlfriend.
Click HERE to read the other five tips on Capessa’s site. If you’d like to be entered to win a $200 American Express gift certificate, leave a comment on this post telling us your favorite tip from each site.
We’ll post the winner on May 4.

One this page my favorite tip is :
Instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. See a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike.
One Capessa my favorite tip is:
Make a small scrapbook or write a letter recounting the fun times you’ve shared over the year or telling her what you appreciate about her. We don’t often take enough time to accentuate the positive. (this one is a really great idea!!)
Thank you for the chance!

Buy her and yourself an indoor plant or some outdoor flowers of the same variety. Watching them grow will remind you of each other throughout the year.
Do you want to be alone on Mother’s Day? Don’t feel guilty about taking some time away. After you’ve celebrated as a family, escape by yourself for a couple hours to browse a bookstore or meet up with a girlfriend
Stephanie Bruce says
We did the plant idea after my mom passed, but i also found a journal was great, helped me remember what it was like to grow up with my mom and to be a mom to my two boys
keli gatlin says
Send an e-cardto your mom or if your mom is no longer around plant a tree in her memory. then take the family fishing, pack a healthy lunch, edamame beans with soy sauce over them, hummas with pita bread, string cheese and some salame.
Happy Mothers day to all and to all whom are no longer here with us!
Barb Koslowski says
Instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. My family enjoys a good old fashioned BBQ. It gives us all a chance to catch up on what’s going on in each others lives and also gives Mom a break from cooking dinner.
I like the idea of a mother daughter outing too. Dad’s hearing is going and he doesn’t like to go to the movies anymore. I’m sure that Mom would love to watch a chick flick while munching on a bucket of hot buttered popcorn.
Debbie says
I definately like the sleep late tip!
The other tip I like is giving a certificate for
a manicure or pedicure
Heather C says
Sleep Late! – favorite by far! 🙂
Buy a plant! – even though it’s more than likely the plant will die within the month.
Thank you!
Joy Venters says
Buy her and yourself an indoor plant or some outdoor flowers of the same variety. Watching them grow will remind you of each other throughout the year.

Audrey Peterson says
sleeping in and plant a garden
Kristen Hendricks says
My favorite tip on this site is Sleep Late because it seems like moms can never get enough sleep especially those with young children. It would be nice if they could get some extra sleep for one day though. On Capessa’s site, my favorite tip is perhaps celebrating Mother’s Day by having a Mother-Daughter outing. I like this idea because I always want to get closer to my mom and having an outing could help us grow closer.
Stacy Johnson says
I like to pack up and take the kids and dad for a bike ride around the lake and have a picnic at the park.
Beverly Pope says
I love the eat out idea for me an my mom. I am a homeschool mom and a caterer, so my mom often helps me with catering jobs. Since I won’t let my husband in my kitchen (except to wash dishes), a day letting someone else cook is just what we need!
Linda Prock says
If you can’t visit your Mother on Mother’s Day, please call her early in the day so she won’t spend the day wondering whether you remembered her. It’s heartbreaking when your Mother is all alone and knows you didn’t think to call her or send a card. EVERY Mother should be honored on Mother’s Day.
claudette flanigan says
Instead of just buying a card for Mother’s Day, write your mother a letter. Tell her everything you love about her…mention a wonderful time the two of you shared during the past year. So much better than signing your name to someone else’s thoughts. Your mom will treasure such a personal letter.
Lily Kwan says
I love the “Sleep late!” tip from this site and the “invite her over for a special meal or take her out for lunch or dinner in lieu of a gift” tip from the Capessa site.

Jennifer
Tammy Kennedy says
Buy her and yourself an indoor plant or some outdoor flowers of the same variety. Watching them grow will remind you of each other throughout the year.
My mother is getting a candle basket since I live 1200 miles away.
She loves candles so everytime she smells that scent she will remeber and think about how much I love her and miss her.
karen beaver says
these are my picks:
1.Take the day off from all your daily chores. You work hard all week doing laundry, cooking, cleaning dishes. Mother’s Day is officially your day off. Even better, tell the family you want a maid for the day instead of a bouquet of flowers.
2. Instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. See a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike.
Susanne Troop says
Here…Instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. See a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike.
There…If she most appreciates spending time with you and the kids, invite her over for a special meal or take her out for lunch or dinner in lieu of a gift. Try making a date with her for Saturday night if you want to leave Sunday open to celebrate with your own family.

Jack Mishler says
I think the see a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike is great and also the idea of taking the day off from all the daily chores. I think I will use these for my wife this Mother’s Day. Thank you!
Michelle H. says
I like “3. Make a small scrapbook or write a letter recounting the fun times you’ve shared over the year or telling her what you appreciate about her. We don’t often take enough time to accentuate the positive.” This would be special because it would show my mom that she is special enough to get a gift that took time and thought.
I also like “Take some time to reflect on your year as a mom. Make a journal entry or write yourself a letter chronicling the ups and downs of parenting.” It is important to look at ourselves and see how we are doing and in what areas we can improve.

I love the idea of skipping the crowded restaurant to do something as a family, a picnic at the park might just be the best idea this year. I also like the idea of the plant for me and one for my mom. She is crazy about plants and would much rather have a plant to grow than cut flowers.
Terry Lipinski says
I don’t have my mom any more but I know which one I would choose. I would choose tellling her how much she meant to me by usng idea #3? Putting in writing endless reasons why she is so wonderful. I know I never told her enough. And as a mother, I would love to hear this from my kids!

I so miss sleeping late and it’s the only day of the year that I can do so without any guilt. My second favorite tip was to create a scrapbook for my mother as a mother’s day gift. I think gifts made from the heart are the most cherished. Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

5. Buy her and yourself an indoor plant or some outdoor flowers of the same variety. Watching them grow will remind you of each other throughout the year.
I think this would personally be a good tip for me along with any other person who has a mother who loves plants. MY mother is absolutely gaga for plants. I don’t mind one hanging around either, I would probably grab some bamboo for each of us since she recently said she wanted some. So this totally will beat out my sister who is getting her some scratch offs, lol.
1. Take some time to reflect on your year as a mom. Make a journal entry or write yourself a letter chronicling the ups and downs of parenting.
I think I would probably write a journal entry or letter reflecting my feelings on what happened and how I felt the past year about being a parent, I would probably save them and implement them into a scrapbook for my daughters when they get older. I want them to know what to look forward to when they have children of their own.
This is an especially good tip I think because young mothers don’t really think about mother’s day in this light. Of what they could do for themselves, how can they make themselves feel worth a million dollars on mother’s day. I think this is one of the ways, just to sit back and take the time to think about the times you spend with your children and the values and lessons you teach them throughout the year. Kind of makes me feel good just thinking about it.
Thank you for the tips, I appreciate it. Also happy Mother’s Day!

Like the idea of going someplace special like an art gallery or botanical garden with Mom.
She like flowers, so a plant for each of us to watch grow is a good idea.
P Hafner says
Instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. See a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike.
If she most appreciates spending time with you and the kids, invite her over for a special meal or take her out for lunch or dinner in lieu of a gift. Try making a date with her for Saturday night if you want to leave Sunday open to celebrate with your own family

Sleep late! Your hubby can handle the kids’ morning routine, and they might surprise you with a gourmet breakfast in bed (or soggy cereal, but it’s the thought that counts, right?). (I do plan on this one though the giggling will wake me up)

I am very pleased that I found a website like the twin mothers. You all had some wonderfull tips for mothers gifts. I am going to make my mother a scrap book of the last years picts that reall shine through all the great times we shared together with her grandchildren, and memorys made this last year. Thanks for all the tips, and creative ideas. I will put them to use for me. Happy mothers day to all of you!
Sarah Hirsch says
I like the idea of spending time alone. I know the day is supposed to be about being a mother and being a family, but I never get any time alone any other day, so it would be able to use mother’s day as a chance for a little “me time.”
Joanna Smith says
From the Capessa website I like Tip #3 which is to make a small scrapbook or write a letter recounting the fun times you’ve shared over the year or telling her what you appreciate about her. We don’t often take enough time to accentuate the positive.
This is so true and I do believe that gifts from the heart are always priceless!
From your website (5 Minutes for Mom) I like Tip #2 which is instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. See a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike.
With our busy schedules we do not spend enough QUALITY time as a family and to me the best Mothers Day gift is to make a QUALITY memory out of the day that will stay with me in the years to come.
I truly enjoyed entering this giveaway because it made me reflect on what is truly important in life and made me think a lot about what changes I need to think about making in the future to achieve those things in life that are most important to me. Thank you for providing me with this vehicle to do that!
Wendy says
I really want to give this to my mom because she really deserves it and she would be so excited and happy
LeahSB says
I like the idea of reflecting on the past year of being a mom. I think we get into a rut of our everyday responsibilities that we don’t cherish motherhood like we should.
I also liked the idea to take your mother out to eat. I would really enjoy it if my children would do that for me because I really enjoy being around my children.
Dottie L Hubbard says
Spending time alone and the two plant idea are great.

A wisteria plant for the yard would be lovely. They smell fabulous! And a nice long bath with no one knocking at the door!

I like the tip to avoid restaurant crowds…..we always avoid restaurants on holidays like this one….who wants a memory of being stressed out in a crowded room? Mother’s Day is supposed to be LESS stressful. :0)
I like the mother-daughter outing idea. This is something that needs to be done at other times of the year, too, not just on Mom’s Day!

Pizza in the park sounds like fun, I’ve never thought of that. We usually get KFC on our park trips but pizza would be a nice change!
I also like the idea of a one on one movie or shopping trip, but my mom is so busy with all her other activities that I can’t even get her to cash in her birthday gift from October which was a mother/daughter pedicure trip!

My favorite tip from the Capessa site is #4. I love the idea of not only giving her a gift certificate but also giving her the gift of someone to share it with – how thoughtful!
My favorite tip from this site is #1- so often we focus on spending time with our families, which is wonderful of course, but what a great addition it would be to spend some time reflecting on the past year as a mother. Not only would I benefit from thinking back, but writing it down would create a gift to be treasured for generations to come. Imagine the value of passing it on to your children when they become parents and they to their children and so on… I love, love, LOVE the idea of that!!

I like the fact that somebody says out loud that maybe what some of us Mom’s want on Mother’s Day is some alone time! I’ve always liked a little time to myself to reflect on the year and what it’s been to me as both a mother and a daughter. Too many people seem to think this odd. Thanks!

I really like tip #3 – “Make a small scrapbook or write a letter recounting the fun times you’ve shared over the year or telling her what you appreciate about her. The best Mother’s Day gift I gave to my Mom one year, along with my sisters and sister-in-laws was to put together a “formal” tea party at my home. They all came wearing their Easter dresses, fancy hats and gloves. I sat them at white linen topped round tables and offered them several different teas, finger sandwiches, fruit salad and chocolate treats. Then each person was given their tea cup and saucer and their chocolate treats to take home, as well as the floral centerpieces. We all then drove to a tea house shoppe, pooled our funds, and bought “Mom” her favorite tea pot. We took lots of pictures and everyone still talks about the tea party to this day.

As someone who worked on Mother’s Day in restaurants that is the last place I’d want to be. Too busy and stressful. A quiet, happy, peaceful day is what I’d want.
From the other site:
Buy her and yourself an indoor plant or some outdoor flowers of the same variety. Watching them grow will remind you of each other throughout the year. I love this idea. The nature and nurture all in one. Plants and flowers make everyone happy!

I love the idea of sleeping in (from 5 Minutes for Mom) and would probably end up with soggy cereal and cold coffee that was made way to weak or that tastes sort of muddy LOL but it’s the thought that counts 🙂
I also love the idea of sending my mom two gift certificates for manicures and pedicures (from Capessa). I know she would take my aunt with her and it would be perfect since I know both of my mom and my aunt and way over worked and stressed out. I think I might just go ahead and do that.
Thanks for all the tips and the great giveaway!

I like the idea of buying two plants to watch grow and to use as a reminder of your mom. I also like the idea of skipping a restaurant (too crowded) and doing something as a family instead.
Susan says
I don’t get along with my mom anymore but from the ideas on the other site I really liked the idea of

I would have done this a few years ago if I had thought about it. Then I would have a reminder now that we did have good times. Oh, well…..
I have a great daughter and we spend lots of time together and no husband so the sleeping in wouldn’t work here but a picnic in the park is what we already have planned.

What great tips all the way around! From the Capressa site I liked and thought most appropraie in my situation Number 2. If she spends plenty of time with the kids, she might prefer a Mother-Daughter outing. Catch a chic flick or invite her on a shopping excursion. From the tips here — even though it might not be a popular answer, I liked “Do you want to be alone on Mother’s Day? Don’t feel guilty about taking some time away. After you’ve celebrated as a family, escape by yourself for a couple hours to browse a bookstore or meet up with a girlfriend.” I love my family and children, but am the typf of person that needs alone/private time to recharge so that I can be a better person, wife and mommy.

I really appreciate your tip to take the time to reflect on your year as a mom. We are so caught up in the day to day that we rarely take time to stop and just THINK! From capessa’s site, I really agreed with the comment about giving plants. Each year, I make my mother some containers for her shade garden. I grow coleus and other shade plants from seed and cuttings I’ve overwintered and love to see them thrive in my mom’s garden.

I like the idea of the the planting from Capessa site. My mother passed away many years ago and they planted a treat in her memory at the school she taught at. My daughter and I have planted strawberries the last three years.
And we never go out on Mother’s day. To go out means you have to fight with crowds and often it’s not enjoyable. Our mothers days are ALWAYS home and more about being together than ‘doing the mother’s day thing.’

Good Afternoon! From your site, I like the getting away for awhile. I would love to look around in our small hometown bookstore! Maybe, even shop for a fun new outfit! From the Capessa site, I like the idea of buying perennials for outdoor planting. When you receive a plant from someone, you always think of them when you see that plant. My sister and I have made sure to dig some of our mom’s many plantings for our own yards. They are in honor of her memory! Thanks,Cindi

I also love the tip “Instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. See a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike. ” We often go to the beach and get fish and chips and have a picnic! Thanks for the other great ideas too~

My two favorite tips were:
Make a small scrapbook or write a letter recounting the fun times you’ve shared over the year or telling her what you appreciate about her. We don’t often take enough time to accentuate the positive
I love doing that and I think the time spent in it is a gift itself.
Also teaming up with other single moms. I am a single mom of two and since I don’t have a husband to help with the breakfast in bed, cleaning the house or helping the girls with their handmade gifts, I just do all that. So it would be nice to have lunch with other moms as well.

I love the idea of journaling my thoughts on being a mom, as those change constantly. It would be really fun to go back and read those years from now, and maybe even give it to my daughter when she becomes a mom. I also like the tip of giving your mom (and yourself) the same variety of plant to remember each other throughout the year! My stepmom gives us beautiful hanging plants each year, and every time I look at them I am reminded of her!

I think I would say sleeping in and I would combine is with Capessa’s idea of a day without the kids. BOTH of these ideas TOGETHER on the SAME day would be like a mini-vacation. I love sleep and I love my kids-the two just don’t mix.
JOAN KAAIHUE says
After it was all over, and hindsight being 20/20, I suppose my favorite Mother’s Day tip (mother’s day being every day) would be to look your child in the eye when they are talking to you and most of all be patient with your children every day.
We make a lot of mistakes as parents and it’s a learn-as-you-go responsibility. Cherish each and every moment because before you know it your children will be grown and gone and all that wonderful childhood stuff will be over. The best age to cherish and to hold dear is birth to five years old when they are all yours to love and to hold close.
Darlene Alexander says

My favorite tip from each sight…Let’s see. I definitely think the sleeping late tip is #1 in my book! I will be all over that one if I get to mass on Saturday night. Otherwise Mother’s Day or not – Sunday starts with worshiping God and that means Mommy’s sleep-in will be cut short. And on the other page I love the suggestion to have Mom over for a special meal with the kids. There’s something really special about spending Mothers Day with all the moms in the family 🙂

Just be sure to let her know that you’re thinking about her, even though you have your own Mother’s Day celebration or observation to enjoy. Too often, older mothers are an afterthought.
Susie Newman says
Sleeping late and letting my husband take care of the kids and house sounds fantastic. He’s really a great guy, but this would be the one day of the year I wouldn’t feel guilty if I slacked. The picnic idea sounds fun too. I never would have thought of something like that. We’re usually the ones standing in line at the restaurant. What a great idea to get outside and away from the congestion.
Andrea says
I like these two ideas:
1. If she most appreciates spending time with you and the kids, invite her over for a special meal or take her out for lunch or dinner in lieu of a gift. Try making a date with her for Saturday night if you want to leave Sunday open to celebrate with your own family
and
2. Instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. See a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike

I think tip #3 from this site is not bad at all. I’m definitely going to apply it myself. As far as the Capessa tips are concerned, I would choose #4. I would send Mom some gift certificates so she can enjoy a day at a spa or at a manicure/pedicure center, as I won’t be able to spend Mother’s Day with her. She’ll feel thought of and pampered!

Money4Mom says
Hey Moms … We had our fifth child back last year, and I was looking for flexible ways to make some extra money while she stayed home with kids. As we turned to the internet, and started researching different ideas, she continually ran into scam and spam at every turn. As I became more involved, we realized there were money making opportunities, they just need to be uncovered and understood. While much of this has been trial and error, we started to discover what was successful and what wasn’t. At this point, it was time to document some ideas and successes, and hopefully get some feedback and suggestion from other entrepreneurs. Of course, part of this blog in itself is not only to share ideas, but hopefully gather a viewer and referral base, to have more opportunities for everyone to be successful.
Cheers.

Give your mother flowers while she is still alive. These were my mother’s words to me years ago. A short time after I began to not only send her flowers but on occasion, I would send her a check to spend any way she wanted and I put “flowers for mom” at the bottom of the check . She really appreciated those checks ….. I love you mom!
Kelley says
Great list! The one from Capese that hit home was the one about talking your mom out on a mother -daughter shopping trip or movie. My mom is always helping me out with my little jewel. Just the 2 of us going out, would be a fun change and a way I can thank her for being such a support to me. The other idea is to avoid the crowded stores and restaurants and go on a family outing. That sounds perfect! A picnic at the beach, just casual and carefree, sounds like a great way to spend a day.
Joy says
Over here: I love the idea of writing a journal entry or a letter about what is has been like the past year as a mom to my 3 1/2 year old dd.
Over there: I love the idea of each having a plant. Unfortunately my mom died when I was young (15) but I know what her favorite flowering plant was so maybe this year I will plant one to remember her by and start talking more about her so my dd can get to know something about her other grandma who isn’t with us.

I love the idea of getting some time away … being alone for a bit on Mother’s Day to just enjoy myself. My hubbie’s family was planned a big get together last year at the last minute and I already had plans to do some shopping for myself. My hubbie was nice enough to let me skip the get together and I had so much fun just shopping alone for several hours. I also love the idea of my family giving me some flowers or maybe even a tree to plant and watch grow all year long as a nice reminder of how they feel about me.

Growing up (and still today) I never had a ton of money to spend on Mother’s Day, so I would always come up with something creative to do for my mom (and now, my wife). The smallest gesture usually means so much more to moms than huge, expensive presents…. but don’t get me wrong, if you’ve got that kinda money, buy her something big, too! =)

A lot of great tips…here are the two that I like.
Sleep late! Your hubby can handle the kids’ morning routine, and they might surprise you with a gourmet breakfast in bed
2. If she spends plenty of time with the kids, she might prefer a Mother-Daughter outing. Catch a chic flick or invite her on a shopping excursion.
Joelle says
Since Mothers day always falls on a Sunday and my husband is a pastor we do not have the option of sleeping in, but wouldn’t that be nice? With four boys we used to go to resatuarnats but since the invention of roller blades(we all have a pair now) we like to grill out and hit the pavement- biking or blading, maybe even a game of baseball, soccer or basketball in the yard- all this talking about it makes me excited to have that kind of a day. In the midst of our crazy scheduale I look forward to days like I just mentioned.

And secondly, my Mom loves plants. I think the idea of buying an indoor plant to have them grow throughout the year is a perfect reminder of each other.
Thanks for the chance!

I like the 1 and 3, the journaling and scrap booking ones. I can really get creative with those and add to them each year to have such a wonderful way to look back on my memories or to create one for those that are gone from our family, such as my Mom. It is a way I can still spend the day with her in a special way. This way my children will get to know a bit more about the Grandma they never really knew.
All are great ideas though and I could go back and forth changing my mind on which ones I want to do right up to the last minute. Enjoy!!

Leah Courtney says
I love the idea of a day with the family for Mather’s day. We’ve done that the last few years!
I also like, from the other site, the idea of buying an indoor plant for me and my mom and watching them grow together during the year. She is living away for a brief time, and this will be the first Mother’s Day we haven’t lived close by, so that might be a nice gesture!

The plant tip and the alone time letting dad deal with the kids is great too

One of the things I like to do for my 90 year old mother for mothers day
is to give her a Single day bus ticket to Atlantic
City and put her on the bus with her Senior friends
whose sons and Daugthers have also done, and a Big old mothers day card with the words
“Do-not open till You get there”
Most of the time all of the kids chip in and we have sometimes 4 or 5 hundred dolaars for her to spend,
She Loves it and looks forward to it.
and she can have fun with-out all of us under her for the day,

My 2 favorite tips: I like the idea of giving Mom two gift certificates for a manicure, so that she and a friend can go together. And I love the idea of me sleeping in. 🙂

3. Make a small scrapbook or write a letter recounting the fun times you’ve shared over the year or telling her what you appreciate about her. We don’t often take enough time to accentuate the positive.
# Take some time to reflect on your year as a mom. Make a journal entry or write yourself a letter chronicling the ups and downs of parenting.
I know my mother would appreciate a letter from me that included some memories of fun things we had done and some of my own art work in it. She can see that I spent time on it that way.
A journal entry talking about the highlights of my year with my own art work will be a great idea to start my mothers day off right.

From Capessa: #3 – “Make a small scrapbook or write a letter recounting the fun times you’ve shared over the year or telling her what you appreciate about her. We don’t often take enough time to accentuate the positive.” I think that this is a great idea because mom can always look back on this scrapbook and celebrate her memories.
From this site: #5 -“Do you want to be alone on Mother’s Day? Don’t feel guilty about taking some time away. After you’ve celebrated as a family, escape by yourself for a couple hours to browse a bookstore or meet up with a girlfriend.” This is very im[portant too, sometimes mothers get overwhelmed and need a little time to themselves.
Carolyn says
Sleep late! 😉 Try making a date with her for Saturday night if you want to leave Sunday open to celebrate with your own family. Hope to win. Thanks.

These are my favorite, I think the flowers one is awesome!
Buy her and yourself an indoor plant or some outdoor flowers of the same variety. Watching them grow will remind you of each other throughout the year.
Take some time to reflect on your year as a mom. Make a journal entry or write yourself a letter chronicling the ups and downs of parenting.

Oh definately sleep late for this site! lol I’m up every morning at 7 with our 3 kids while the hubby sleeps till 8:30-9 and then heads to work till 7. If I’m lucky, I’ll get him up with them one Saturday a month so I can sleep in, but not w/o hearing him moan and groan about it. lol
For the other site, I like the mother-daughter outing, though we’re not chic flick kinda girls. I love spending time with my mom and sisters, so a coffee and/or dessert outing is always fab for us. ^^
Thanks for the contest!
Alicia says
Sleep late! Your hubby can handle the kids’ morning routine, and they might surprise you with a gourmet breakfast in bed (or soggy cereal, but it’s the thought that counts, right?).
AND
Buy her and yourself an indoor plant or some outdoor flowers of the same variety. Watching them grow will remind you of each other throughout the year.

I would say my favorites would be the one to spend some quiet time at home, or at the park with the family. I haven’t had a lot of time because of school so this would be fantastic.
I think I would like to journal/scrapbook for my mom. I have scanned in a million pictures and I know she’d love it. She’d also love the manicure!

Thank you for this opportunity. These are all great ideas but I like the following the most:
#2 from 5M4M – Instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. See a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike.
#1 from Capessa – If she most appreciates spending time with you and the kids, invite her over for a special meal or take her out for lunch or dinner in lieu of a gift. Try making a date with her for Saturday night if you want to leave Sunday open to celebrate with your own family.
Ally K says
From The Capessa site-
I like the idea of having my mom come over for a special dinner or taking special time with just me and her.
From here- I would have to say that not feeling guilty about some alone time is a great tip that more moms should take… I don’t feel guilty about my ‘ME’ time, I think it makes me a better mom, because I ma relaxed and re-charged.
Thanks for entering me 🙂

I think the idea of buying a plant for mom and a plant for yourself and watching them grow is very creative. Reminds me of “being under the same moon.”
I also like the idea of letting Dad handle the morning routine. Often we don’t give Dads enough credit, do we? I’m sure the house will still be standing if I get an extra hour of sleep! 🙂

The ideas I like the best are the picnic in the park and the manicure. Those are two things I find very relaxing. Thank you, Cory

I love the tip on journaling about the year as a mom. We quickly forget the highs and lows from previous years.
I also love the tip about having a mother daughter day. As much as my mom is a great grandmother to my kids, I sometimes like to keep her all to myself.

I like: “Instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. See a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike.” My husband gets stressed around large crowds, so this would be more enjoyable.
On Capessa: “5. Buy her and yourself an indoor plant or some outdoor flowers of the same variety. Watching them grow will remind you of each other throughout the year.” My mother and I both love plants so this is an excellent idea.

On this blog I really like the “skip the Sunday restaurant crowd and chill somewhere simple with your family.” What a blast!
Over on Capessa, I liked the part about where if you can’t be with your mom, send her a couple gift certifiates for a manicure or pedicure. Who doesn’t love those?!
Mandy says
Here, I love the idea of sleeping late. With a 6 month old who’s starting waking during the night again, I could really use that one!
At the other site, I love the idea of buying two gift certificates so mom can invite a friend to get a mani/pedi with her. Both of our moms live away from here so we usually send a gift card for a pedicure or something. How much fun would it be for them to be able to treat a friend too?
Barbara H. says
On this list I like # 2 & 3 — we combine those. My husband and boys do all that is involved for Sunday dinner on other’s Day, even shopping for the groceries. It is so much more pleasant and meaningful than waiting in a crowded restaurant.
On the other site, since my mom and I lived 1,000 miles away, I like the idea of sending her gift certificates to do something with someone. She wouldn’t have gone for manicures or pedicures, but she did love to do things with someone, and since I couldn’t be there, that would have been perfect.

From the Capessa site: “Make a small scrapbook or write a letter recounting the fun times you’ve shared over the year or telling her what you appreciate about her. From here: “Instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. See a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike.” – I’d much rather spend time alone with my family than fight the restaurant crowds!

Some great ideas. I really like the idea of giving and getting the same flowers so you can think of each other through the year when you aren’t able to be together. I’ve been through that for many years. I also like the idea of going out for a picnic or pizza rather than the stress of a sit down place with the kids.

My favorite from your site: Instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. See a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike.

Sometimes the best things are the simple things. I would really enjoy a family picnic at a park or the beach so I had to go with this one:
-Instead of joining the Sunday crowds at restaurants, do something together as a family. See a movie, have a picnic or a pizza at the park, or go on a hike.
Again, I was drawn to the simple yet thoughtful and meaningful idea of matching plants as a constant reminder.
-Buy her and yourself an indoor plant or some outdoor flowers of the same variety. Watching them grow will remind you of each other throughout the year.
Thanks for the great contest and Happy Mother’s Day to all of the Mom’s out there!

I like the idea of a special girl’s day out – a movie or special event together with my mom.
My husband considers Mother’s Day a hallmark holiday. It’s not as if he doesn’t appreciate me year round so I don’t get any special treatment on the big day. Still, I like to reflect on myself as a mother.

I like the tip about letting my husband handle the kid’s morning routine- I think I might try that!
