Tackle it Tuesday – Shelf Paper Joy

by Carmen

Carmen here again, and ready to tackle these gross shelves at my new house.

I just moved into my house a week ago after living in a hotel, then at my moms over the last two weeks. I have been busy scrubbing, cleaning and putting down shelf paper in the new house to make it more Carmen livable.

The home is about 14 years old, and I think it still has its original cabinets – being a rental home for the last 8 years, the shelves have taken a beating, and I didn’t want to put any of my food on them until I had paper down. Not even my canned goods. I am a bit weird like that. But as you can see, the shelves looked pretty gross to say the least.

I did not even want to post the picture, because of how icky it looks, but you needed to see the before and after to really get how excited I was to finish this project!

So I went to Home Depot and bought shelf paper, but forgot scissors. My mom told me to buy some single razor blades instead – she is usually right, but she was wrong wrong wrong this time. It was terrible trying to cut into the paper, and I ended up scratching the Spanish tile flooring.

So back to the store I go to buy scissors and on return I started measuring and cutting my shelf paper. As I pulled the backing on each long sheet, I felt a sense of pride and relief knowing I would soon be able to store my food – at least the few things I bought like water, salt, pancake mix, and juice boxes…not a very balanced selection I know.

The end result is my beautifully lined shelf where I am comfortable housing my food, pots, pans, dishes and everything else. Even my water looks happy.

I am settling into San Diego perfectly, and who can complain when its December and 75 degrees?

I love that shelf paper. I line all my drawers, kitchen cabinets and pantry shelves with it. It immediately makes my home much more liveable.

I agree. Almost done with the bathrooms. Just have to get offline and do it. Easier said than done!
