Have you ever been to a BlogHer conference before? How far did you have to go to get there?
Did you fly or drive? Did you have a sponsor? Did you have to scrape and save to make it?
We all take different roads to get to this fabulous blogging conference and I thought it’d be fun to hear how you’ve gotten there before and if you’re going to New York, how you’re getting there.
Last year several bloggers carpooled across the country to get to BlogHer in Chicago. Sondra from Happy Healthy Hip Parenting tells me all about how she got to BlogHer09.

This is my first BlogHer, and I am flying in from Northwest Arkansas in order to work in the Walmart booth. I’m super pumped, as I really enjoy blogging and am excited to be able to interact with all of the bloggers in NYC.

I’ve only been to one blogging conference – BlogHer ’08 in San Francisco. I had just discovered that I was pregnant and had the beginnings of gut-wrenching morning sickness so I was a little “out of it” that weekend…BUT I did meet some wonderful people (including YOU & Janice!). I was going to go to the Mom 2.0 Summit, but then I decided to opt out (I just couldn’t bear to leave my family behind).
In this season of my life, I’d rather not travel across the country without my tinies. Perhaps in the future…

Last year was my first blogging conference experience (BlogHer 09 in Chicago) and will be back in NYC next month. I really enjoyed meeting the people behind the stories and Twitter handles. Looking forward to more of the same, plus some informative labs and sessions.

I’ll be there for at least one day. The other days depend on sponsorship/contests to pay for hotel. I’m able to take the train up from PA. It will be my first experience with BlogHer.

I haven’t been fortunate enough to go. A little disappointing, but I guess I haven’t put in the necessary work to go. It’s amazing how some bloggers are getting sponsors contacting them or are able to get that from companies. Still haven’t quite figured that all out… A lot going on here and normally not even anything in the budget to register. Oh well, this isn’t supposed to be a woe-is-me comment. Congrats and have fun to everyone who is going.

I would LOVE to go to a BlogHer conference SOMEDAY! It’ll be on my list of goals for next year. It would be awesome to meet some of the fantastic writers that I read every day!

I really wanted to go. I’ve never been. They just had one in Atlanta (about an hour from me) last week I think. One day I’ll go….

i am flying from Sacramento, CA to my very first BlogHer. i could have gone when it was in my own backyard in San Jose and then San Francisco, but son’s 9th surgery , a new job and then a new grandbaby got in the way. i have never been to NYC either in spite of the fact that I grew up on the east coast, so i am doubly excited to be going this year. i sure hope that i get to meet you both!
Susan says
I hope we see you there too. Definitely come up and say hi!!!
I also am so excited for my first trip to NYC. It will make the event that much more fun… and that is saying a lot.

This is my first year attending BlogHer10. I ended up winning tickets to the conference and it covered my hotel stay. I am flying from Washington State and it isn’t cheap. I managed to get my flight covered, but wish I had a sponsor to cover overall expenses while I am there. I am so excited to be attending. Really scraping the barrel on this one to make it there. I may not have new clothes like I had hoped, but I will have fun meeting all my blogging friends.
Susan says
How awesome that you won the tickets and the hotel stay. I hear you about having to fly across the country… we’re just north of you in Vancouver and ouch… it costs a lot.
About the clothes, please do not worry about buying new clothes… it so doesn’t matter. Jeans and a nice t-shirt are fine for the conference days.

I went last year for the first time, and I’m going again this year, having just decided this week!
(Why do I always wait until the last minute??!!)
Of course, one of the things I’m looking forward to most is seeing you ladies again!!
Susan says
We’re so thrilled you’re coming again too. (I’m such a last minute person too… so no worries about that.)

I’d been wanting to go to BlogHer for a while – I first heard about it when the 2007 conference was held, only a few weeks after I started my first blog. Suddenly the whole blogosphere was full of everyone discussing this amazing blogging conference, and I knew I wanted to go. The next year’s was held in San Francisco – way too far for me to travel from MI. But when I saw that it would be in Chicago in 2009, I was determined to find a way to go. And I did. 🙂
I was very lucky to find 2 partial sponsors last year, was fortunate to have help with the hotel room and also was invited to join one of the ‘official’ sponsored carpools. And it was an amazing experience. I wasn’t sure if NYC would happen this year, but I’ve found the money to make it work – without any sponsors (although I’m still looking, even now). So I’ll be there in NY in a few weeks (flying this time) – I can’t wait! 🙂
I guess how far I would go at this point would depend on cost. I would love to go to some of the other blogging conferences too, but really had to struggle just to afford this one. I’ll have to wait and see where it’ll be held next year and then decide.
Susan says
Deb, I’m so excited that you’re coming again this year!
Yes, it’s great when you can have sponsors help cover the cost.
See you soon!!!
