What are you doing this summer?
Most of you Americans are well into your summer vacations, but up here in Canada, as well as some of the Pacific Northwest, we haven’t started summer yet!
Not only was school not out, Jackson’s last day of school is tomorrow, but the clouds refuse to let the summer sun make her way through. We are still wearing sweatshirts most days with weather in the 60’s!
This year, the cold weather has encouraged my denial that summer is coming and I have procrastinated organizing Jackson’s summer calendar. To keep my very active son busy in the summer, I usually sign him up for lots of summer day camps.
But with school ending tomorrow and the thought of my easily bored son soon bouncing off the walls, I finally printed out July and August calendars and began mapping out Jackson’s summer schedule, as well as our family vacation times.
(In case you are wondering, Olivia’s summer plans are not nearly as complicated as Jackson’s. I have childcare for Olivia while I work, so she will be continuing her routine of play dates and park visits. But I don’t want to subject my eight year old son to hanging out with preschoolers! SO, summer costs me a fortune paying for individualized childcare. But that is what happens I guess when children are six years apart.)
Jackson’s summer calendar kicks off on Wednesday when he heads off to our cabin for a boys’ weekend with his Dad. Olivia and I are going to stay here because I have a Twitter party on Wednesday night (don’t forget to join in Wed 7-9pm ET!) and a ton of other work to do.
Today, I signed Jackson up for four day camps, and along with our three family trips we have scheduled, Jackson will have only a couple weeks to drive me crazy flying his remote control helicopter into my head while I am trying to work. (And thankfully his Nintendo DSi will keep him busy too when I really need some peace and quiet!)
And the survey says…
All this summer prep made me curious what YOU are doing to keep busy this summer.

I’m curious…this is a huge site. Janice, is this site your job, or do you have another?

Yay for Tackle It Tuesday! I have only just discovered you, but this is what I needed to get off my lazy butt and do some stuff that REALLY needs to be done! 🙂
Janice says
I deleted it. 🙂
So great that you are doing such thorough tackling! Great work and thanks for linking it up here. 🙂
Debbie says
First, could you delete my first entry of Cleaning- Star Wars stuff. I looked at it after I choose the picture and thought… that was dumb… I did not choose a picture of my Star Wars stuff I choose the wrong picture.
I am slowly working my way through my bedroom… deep cleaning… while I do other work that must be done before I begin our homeschool year again the last week of July. Thanks for hosting the tackle… it keeps me working on the cleaning I need to get done so that I have something to post each week for your meme.

I had been missing Tackle it Tuesday! Glad to be a part of it again.

Wow, it’s hard to me to imagine it being 60-degrees somewhere! Down here in Texas, we’ve had 100+ weather for weeks now!! (Wanna trade?) Does it EVER get hot up there? I’ve never been to Canada, although my family has roots up in Michigan. 🙂

I was just in Orlando for a meeting last week and felt the heat. Wow. That sure is something. It never gets much about 85degrees around here. Usually in the 70s most nice summer days. Inland in can get VERY hot. But we are on the pacific south coast of Canada – at the US border.

We have been swimming all summer but when the temps cool…it’s off the the library:-)
Janice says
Haven’t stepped into a pool yet. Oh how I wish we had a pool in our backyard! But we need some sun first!

I am happy to finally have tackled our linen and school supplies closets. Look forward to reading ohters posts. Thanks for hosting

Good for you!!

I did the same thing last week!! I was starting to feel like I would never be able to keep track of the various week long camps and OT/Speech/Tennis/Dance appointments and lessons! So I sat down and wrote everything out. That’s when I realized that almost everyday we had somewhere to go!!! A little to much for my taste, but some of the things are necessary! Unfortunately each of the few week long camps my 2 kids picked do not overlap, so while one has one, the other one doesn’t. The upside of that though, is that I will get to spend some quality time with each of them alone this summer, a definite unusual event! It looks like it’s going to be a busy, fun summer in our house!
Janice says
Yes – that will be a nice chance to have quality time! But I bet some alone time would have been nice too! 😉
Toddler Crafts Onna says
Janice- LOL- TRUE! some alone time would be nice! I might just have to get a sitter on some occasional days to get some time!

My guys are too little for huge scheduling yet – but I see it on the horizon. We signed up for soccer this summer and we’re already planning our vacation around it!
Janice says
I remember Jackson’s first soccer camp! 🙂 Such little cuties!
Have fun!!!
