If you’re a parent, chances are that you know about the summer camp opportunities in your area for your kids. Maybe you’ve got some cool sports or arts-and-crafts themed day camps, or perhaps you opt for the sleep-away version and kiss your young guy or gal goodbye by the camp fire. For these, and all other available formats of the summer camp experience, there is a new book by Chris Pallatto and Ron DeFazio that needs to find a place on your shelf or in your kids’ duffel bag.
The Summer Camp Survival Guide: Cool Games, Camp Classics, and How to Capture the Flag is an uber-cool spiral bound book featuring helpful and fun information for both the campers and the parents who send in the payments. Want to know what you can expect from seven typical types of camp? Check out chapter two. Interested in a crash course in wilderness preparation? Use the tabs to flip right to chapter five. Looking for games and songs so you can be in the know? Chapters six and seven have got you covered. There is even a “Special Tear-Out Section for Parents” with advice and resources to consider when choosing a camp for your children. And since the book can easily be packed with your lil camper, there is the required Autographs and Addresses section in the back, allowing for memories to be captured and friendships to be continued long after the campers roast their last s’mores.
My own son will happily be attending a session of our city’s amazing Circus Camp, so no camp bunks for him yet, but there is definitely a whole lot of fun that can be had from this book for day campers like him, as well. Maybe he can share one of the spooky campfire stories with us over a fire in our backyard fire pit one night!
I’m so very happy to say that the folks at Sterling Publishing, as generous as always, are offering three copies of The Summer Camp Survival Guide: Cool Games, Camp Classics, and How to Capture the Flag to our readers. Please leave one comment here to be entered, U.S. and Canada residents only. We’ll announce winners in our June 7th column. Happy camping!
The winner of two colorful picture books is #17 Wendy.

Written by book blogger Dawn, who spent much of her time at day camp under a shady tree with a book in her hand back in the day. Surprise, surprise. The adventures of her own little campers are told on her blog, my thoughts exactly.
