I love our new portable DVD player…

Written by Janice

We just had the most peaceful road trip. I even had a nap in the wonderful silence.

Usually the long car ride to my family’s cabin is filled with whining from our restless son Jackson. And honestly, I don’t blame him. When I was a kid I dreaded the drive, begging my parents to sell the cabin just so I didn’t have to endure the tedious hours.

But technology has fixed the problem. Oh - do I wish I were a kid nowadays!

I know many of you have had DVD players in your minivans for years. But our minivan did not come with one installed and we were not going to move up to the more expensive package simply to get a DVD player. Plus, I really didn’t want one available to my son every time he was in the car.

But whenever we packed up to go on a long road trip, I must say, I sure wished we had one.

review-portable-dvd1.jpgThis time though – we finally did have one – the Insignia® 10.2″ Widescreen LCD Portable DVD Player from Best Buy.

I am sure you can imagine how thrilled my son was to have this fantastic piece of technology in his hands. The luxurious 10.2″ screen makes viewing totally enjoyable and yet the player is still lightweight and portable.

(During our vacation, I indulged in a few late night movies myself. The picture is so crisp and the sound so great, that I loved curling up in my bed after everyone had gone to my bed and watching a movie. It was such a treat!)

If you are looking for a little peace and quiet on your next road trip – or just the convenience of having movies on the go – the Insignia® 10.2″ Widescreen LCD Portable DVD Player is fabulous. We are totally pleased with it. The screen size is large and yet the player is still lightweight, and the picture quality is excellent with 800×480 resolution. It is sturdy with a rubberized outer shell, reinforced hinges and splash resistant controls, and the battery lasts up to four hours. And there are three headphone jacks – so three kids can enjoy the show, all while keeping you in peaceful silence. So, click on over to Best Buy to pick one up for your family.

And if all this talk of technology is making you want some fun stuff, remember to click over and enter in our Best Buy Insignia® 37″ Flat-Panel LCD HDTV contest. Time is running out – the HDTV contest ends August 16th.

We’ve had our portable DVD player for a couple of years now and it’s been great for long trips in the car, and in hotel rooms as well! :)

We were given one earlier this year, and it’s especially great for long road trips to see grandparents. My daughter has also watched movies on it with her cousins during sleepovers.

We bought a portable DVD player too! Fabulous invention… I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a mom who came up with it. We have used it 2 times on flights with out toddler… what a lifesaver! And… we also brought it along with us to the shore… so we could make sure we could watch some of our favorite shows (dvd burner with TiVo… also wonderful invention).

Our friends and family call us the “JETSON” family. Because when we go on roads trips we take…3 dvd players..one for each kid (no arguing) psp’s, ipods, laptop, and dsl’s…Yikes. What ever happen to coloring books and crayons? LOL.

I’m leaving on a 12-hour car trip in the morning, and I am beginning to regret our decision not to invest in one of these little wonders. If I’d read this yesterday, I probably would have gone and bought one today, lol. I guess we’ll just have to ride the old-fashioned way one more time. :-)

We always take out DVD player with us on trips. I don’t know what we’d do without it!

We love ours, we use it for our river trips.

We take tons of road trips and I’m still not sold on putting a television in our car. We still go for old fashioned games and songs. Might be a little painful, but I think even looking out the window provides better road trip memories.

I often have mixed feelings about portable DVD when it comes to kids - wondering if they will get addicted to watching TV. Any thoughts?

Please make sure these are securely attached to your vehicle. Any item (or person) not secured will become a projectile in the event of an impact.
