I like your thoughts about U2 and how they are striving to do good in the world. I agree that there could be many other groups that could use their platform for good. At least they are setting a good example.

Oh, I’m a huge U2 fan. Bono’s accused of being “God-like”, but my personal experience has found that to be far from the truth. Back on the Joshua Tree tour, I had the opportunity to sit in on a press conference — and be seated closest to Bono. He had come in late, since he had dislocated his shoulder at a concert in DC the night before. He tapped on his mic, which was off, and asked if it was working. Me and my big smart mouth had to say something along the lines of “maybe we don’t want to hear you talk!” OMG, you could have heard a pin drop in that room! How dare someone say that to Bono! But he just laughed and said “you’re probably right!” That made him so much more human to me. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen U2 live since the dozen shows on the Joshua Tree tour. I just can’t afford them. And to think I used to complain about their $15 tickets!

I agree with you, Bono expresses his messages so perfectly through his music. That concert must have been just amazing. I wish all celebrities were more positive, why the heck does violence sell?

It would probably be Bono. I have always loved their music and how they are not afraid to say what they believe.

Yep, U2 is not only my favorite pop band, but certainly I would say one of our best pop culture role models of all time. Bono’s motivation to seek social justice and change is astounding, I’m always impressed and interested to see what he will do next. There should be more people like him, this world would certainly be a better and more hopeful place.
